Totally agree with everything. I can’t even recommend this movie. Music was great. The night I saw it, was the same night George Michael had died. I had his song running through my head from the movie.
Lion King, lol
Yep!
I always amazed by movie critics. Probably because I’m not really sure what your job actually entails. I go to the theater for the experience. You guys seem to go to look for the negatives in the film, not the positives. I judge a movie by how much I enjoyed the experience. Some filmmakers are going for artistic cinematic excellence. Some are telling a good story and some are just trying to make a film that moviegoers will enjoy. The vast majority are hoping for financial success.
You knocked “Sing” for being “nothing new.” In my opinion, there is very little that is actually new in Hollywood. Everything is a variation on something that’s been done before. Very rarely do we get something that is truly new. The Star Wars movies are just Westerns with high tech weapons. I could go on and on with the other genres as well.
You said it was a kid’s movie and adults wouldn’t enjoy it. I couldn’t disagree more. Not only did I really enjoy the movie, but the other adults in the theater did, too. This was determined by their reactions during the movie and listening to their comments as they left. Was there anything new there? Probably not. Was it done extremely well? Absolutely! Will it win Best Picture? No chance. Is it a huge commercial success? Most definitely! Did it deserve a “C?” No way.
Thanks for your response Tom. I’m glad you loved the movie! My job (as I see it) is to be honest about my experience in a way that can inform others the kind of experience they might have. Sometimes this will line up, and it this case it obviously hasn’t 🙂
When I say “Sing” is “nothing new” it’s not a “knock” as much as it is information (based on my opinion) that might help someone know what to expect or add to the conversation. I fully admit I’m in the minority on “Sing” but my experience wasn’t as good as yours, and in my opinion the things that impacted that experience might be useful to someone making their own decision.
I’ll also say I’m ALWAYS happy when someone has a good time at the movies, even when I didn’t. I’m glad people are really liking “Sing” even if I didn’t. Maybe I’ll re-watch and find something I didn’t see the first time to keep me invested.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I do enjoy you and Sarah on KY3. Just didn’t agree with you on “Sing.”
Of course! Thanks!
